GOVERNANCE
A Council made out of twelve (12)
Councilors governs the city of Manzini. All Councilors are
democratically elected by residents from all the 12 municipal
wards with each ward electing its Councilor. The term of
office for all Councilors is five (5) years after which the
city goes back to the polls to elect the next Council. The
elections are governed by the Elections Regulations as amended
in 1998. These Regulations are derived from section eight (8)
of the Urban Government Act. The Act gives powers to the
Minister of Housing and Urban Development to regulate
elections. It also spells qualification of candidates.
