Environmental Health Department
Environmental health refers to the
theory and practice of assessing and controlling factors in
the environment that can potentially affect public health and
the social and economic conditions that act as driving forces
and put pressure on the environment. This department focuses
on hazard identification, risk assessment and risk management
in the public health realm in an effort to prevent illness.
Objectives of the Department
* Promoting sound environmental
management across all sectors in the city so that citizens
live in a clean, healthy and safe environment.
* Ensuring that
environmental mitigation measures are put in place so that any
activities undertaken within the city do not harm the natural
and built environment.
* Ensuring that businesses in the
city operate within environmental standards as detailed in the
Swaziland Environmental Authority regulations and guidelines.
The Department is divided into six
sections
1. Public cleansing
2. Environmental sanitation
3. Food safety
4. Laboratory
5. Public health nursing
6. Social welfare
